The lovely e-mail blasters at Horticulture sent out a blast today with this little ditty tucked inside.
(sorry for the funky line things - that's on their end)
Hmm... Gilbert H. Wild and Son. Never heard of 'em but I'd better check it out... I don't really want to spend $60 right now, but maybe just a few bucks...
*tick tock*
Two hours later an order was placed. I couldn't help myself. I only ordered three, and two were cultivars that my favorite Iris People - Schreiner's Iris Gardens - didn't have. The other was an impulse buy (and shhh... cheaper than Schreiner's)
Celebration Song (L) and I've Got a Secret (R) - the two unique ones.
and Beverly Sills - the impulse purchase.
So now I'm three irises richer but none the wiser. If my lady spring ever arrives I'll shall plant, plant, plant!
I still plan on ordering from Schreiner's by the way. I just haven't gotten around to it.
These three rhizomes, plus a mystery BONUS plant, plus the shipping, cost me under $30 and I find that fantastically doable. If you like irises, peonies and day lilies, you should check out Gilbert H. Wild and Son; their prices are good. I think.

I totally nabbed these photos as well, so I should probably give some credit to:

Thank you!
This is a very dangerous post for my budget. Just saying... I've been wanting to replace the blackberry lilies I had to leave behind when we moved last year. They have them BOGO. Oy vey.
ReplyDeleteI have purchased hostas from Gilbert H Wild before - they have a very inexpensive "hostas by the handful" mix. However, I had forgotten they also have irises. I plan on buying numerous irises this year - will be checking them out!

DeleteYou'll have to let me know if you purchased anything! I can't wait for these to arrive :)
