Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - June

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!

I am excited to share what's blooming this month - we finally have some pretty things growing! After uploading these photos, I realized I didn't make it all the way around my garden to photograph everything that is in bloom. I get sidetracked by beautiful color combos and things the flit and flutter. What is shared today is a "best of" for June. Trust me, what I've left out isn't mind blowing; some tomatoes, Drinking Gourd hosta, a pink anemone (which I've decided I don't really like) and a puny filipendula. You're not missing much.

So, without further ado...

Achillea 'Schwellenberg' - I don't really like yarrow or yellow... but I'm drawn this particular variety's foliage (which you can't see). It is the same color as the Artemisia 'Silver Mound.' Planted together, they are lovely. The color is so brilliant that my camera had a hard time registering the hue; all of the photos of this particular plant turned out blurry.
Baptisia 'Twilite Prairieblues' - so dark purple, it's almost black. I purchased this plant from Linder's (last season) based solely on the tag picture, as it wasn't in bloom. The photo was a deep pinkish red. I am a bit upset it looks nothing like their photo... but it's growing on me.

Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' - behind the dianthus.  This plant is huge, you'd think it was more than just one season old. I have two. I think I want more.

My favorite combo. Dianthus gratianopolitanus 'Neon Star' and Artemisia schmidtiana 'Silver Mound'

Annnd... a tiny creeping thyme. I snapped this one just as it was starting to flower a few days ago.

The flowers are open today - just for you, my Garden Friends!

If you take a look at some of the below Wordless Wednesday posts, you'll see some of the other things growing on our lot. *I didn't want to double post. :)

I can't wait to see what's growing around the world this gorgeous June day! A special thank you to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting this GBBD - as always. Please check out her beautiful garden and find out what's growing in some other, very special, gardens.

xoxo sj

  1. I love the way you have used the silver-gray foliage as a background for the yellows, pinks, and purples!
    Happy GBBD!

  2. Not a big fan of Yarrow either, but I once saw one called 'Apple Blossom' which almost convinced me to give it a try. Happy GBBD!

    1. Almost... key word! ;) It tends to look a bit weedy , but I'm giving it a chance. The white yarrow that was growing in the garden (when we moved it) spread (jumped) out of the raised bed and into the grass. I see little ferny yarrow leaves in my grass a lot. Grrr...

  4. We have some of the same plants, I just planted Salvia 'Carradonna' and am a fan. Also the Baptisia, though I have the straight species australis. Happy GBBD!

    1. Jason - I think I like australis more than my 'TP.' For now, it's OK. The little pop of yellow plays well with the yarrow. Last year, I was on the fence about 'Carradonna' but it has become one of my favorites. Grows really well and looks nice all year.
