Planting Ranunculus

1. Cheap from Menards - I think $5.95 for 25 corms (found a 26th inside)
2. Pokey little buggers.
3. Preparing cells with starting soil. *Tip - I pre moisten all my seed starting soil.
4. Don't plant them like this... *Tip - Other side up! Claw-things should point down.
5. Germination rate as of today is 18/26 corms. Not bad!

If you didn't catch (via Twitter) what happened to my ranunculus last year, I'll quickly fill you in... Planted them in early spring, sprouted beautifully, weather got too hot too fast so I moved them under large tree for shade, squirrel had all you can eat buffet and then hairless dog finished them off by using the flat as fire hydrant. The end.

Needless to say I'm being a bit more careful this year and I'm starting them A LOT earlier.

    1. I would estimate they are just like dahlias. Easy and rewarding! Thanks for popping in... I have a lot of catch up to do! :)

    1. PS if you took word verification off your comments, I would be very appreciative! :) it often doesn't work when trying to leave a comment from a phone.

    2. Check! I didn't even know it was on as a requirement. Thanks for stopping by. I'm ramping up to blog again. Rain is washing away feet of snow and that is exciting!

  3. How cute are those seedlings!? I've always wondered how ranuculus would grow in Minnesota - might have to hit up Menards and see for myself!

    1. Hi Maria, I think you should, definitely. I had a great germination rate with these; only a few were duds. They are pretty large now, so I'm looking to transplant into larger pots soon. Will post update.
